MOVIE REVIEW: The Mortal Instruments, City of Bones

images1

Hello there! I’ve just caught the screening of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones yesterday and would like to share/review about it. I’ll be trying to do some movie reviews on some books that I’ve read -> made into movies. And if you didn’t know, I am a huge fan of Cassandra Clare’s writing.

The movie was really rushed as it could not be help. In the story, there are like two to three climaxes, and amazingly, they managed to almost everything in!

It was great knowing how the Harald Zwart knew that every scene was close to our hearts, and thus was necessary to put it all in the movie.

What was missing?

Simon did not turn into a rat. Instead he was just kidnapped. It wasn’t that big of a detail left out, as I think the screenwriters just wanted to display Clary’s love for Simon in this scene. Thus the rat part wasn’t that important.

Raphael Santiago. The head of the vampire clan did not make any appearance or have any lines at all. I’m quite sad about Raphael’s absence, as Raphael plays a pretty huge role in the next few books/movies.

Church. Yes, Church the cat is missing. Although it doesn’t have much significance until later in The Infernal Devices and the second arc of The Mortal Instruments.

What I liked about the movie.

Jamie Campbell Bower really pulled off the role fantastically! He managed to bring out Jace’s witty and sarcastic character which really made the audience laugh 🙂 And not forgetting the hair flip /squeals/

Robert Sheehan was absolutely perfect too. The perfect geeky, witty Simon, just like the one in the book.

Isabelle was so bad-ass. I was shocked at how the gentle looking Jemima West could do the whole bad-ass, leather boots thing. But wow, that french hottie sure knows how to act!

The Magnus and Alec love line was absolutely perfect. They did not overdo it, and left the fans wanting more (especially me) And the two actors, Godfrey and Kevin pulled off the role really well. Especially the part where they had like a mini eye-sex session for like three whole seconds (faints) AND ALSO the extra scene that the screenwriters had added in for Magnus was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. It really made the Malec fans go wild /i screamed a little/ and contributed a little to their relationship. It was suttle but sufficient, and it did not make the audience go: HE’S GAY?!

I don’t really know what to say about Lily Collins as I’m not good at judging female actors/protagonists. But she still did a pretty good job at handling Clary’s shock and everything.

They did not leave out the witty and humorous element of this book. Unlike Twilight as most people would compare it to. The joke made by every single character left the audience laughing so hard. And it did not make it seem like a fluffy yet dreary and angsty romance like Twilight (in the movies). I’ve read the entire Twilight series and was disappointed when they drained all the humor out of the book when it was made into the movie. So I would like to take this chance to thank the awesome screenwriters 🙂

The Silent Brothers were real creepy, exactly like the ones in the book. And I love how they depicted the Mortal Sword (on the ceiling). So creative!

I would give this movie a 4/5 stars. I wouldn’t give a fantasy genre movie a full 5 stars as there are some disappointing elements that are also inevitable. But it was definitely one of the better fantasy movies I’ve watched. The effects was done up so perfectly it did not seem to fake. So it was great!

Also let me know if you want more movie reviews 🙂

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden

If you haven’t read the Coincidence of Callie and Kayden. DO NOT READ! SPOILERS!

Image

Long Story Short!

It continues from where Jessica Sorensen has left off in The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden. Kayden is now in rehab, and Callie is desperate to get him back. Both of them constantly face with issues from their family. The situation worsened when Caleb, who raped Callie, has came back to haunt her. Then Seth and Luke (their best friends) decide to take a road trip to help them settle their issues. With Kayden still having suicidal thoughts and Callie unable to face her problems, they eventually managed to help one another overcome all their obstacles + happily ever after 🙂

What the 16 year old thinks…

The story did not have an engaging plot, or it did not have a plot at all. However, Jesscia Sorensen never fails to make a short story that good. The whole cliffhanger was resolved in this story, and the entire story of Callie and Kayden was wrapped up perfectly 🙂

Other Rants.

I was honestly very disappointed in this book as it had no plot at all. And the cliffhanger from the first book was not wrapped up nicely, it was rather abrupt. The secondary characters managed to play a bigger role in this book by pissing me off really badly, which is good 🙂 (even the secondary characters are well-developed). However the entire story was really wrapped up perfectly with no loose ends.. Well maybe there’s one. (How Kayden’s dad went missing)… which leads me to presume that there’s a third book? /fingers crossed/

Sorry for the late updates, as you know it’s my final year in school and my national exams are nearing. So I’d be trying to review as frequently as I can. (At least once a month)

I’ll be reviewing The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden too 🙂

NEW THIS WEEK: The Redemption of Callie and Kayden

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden was out recently and I’ve managed to get my copy of it only this week. I’ll be reviewing the book this week (if I finish it) 🙂
Sorry for the long hiatus! Just finished my exams and would try to post more frequently (weekly) from now on! 🙂

Never Too Far by Abbi Glines (Too Far #2)

Image

Long Story Short!

Blaire is pregnant with Rush’s baby, but he doesn’t know. He couldn’t know, especially after finding out about her family. So Blaire has returned to the country club working in order to make ends meet for herself, and for her baby. She goes through lots of trouble trying to avoid Rush and hiding her pregnancy. Filled with lies, angst while she avoids Rush who is desperate to get her back no matter what. However the mood of the book changes totally when Rush finds out. Rush took the pregnancy positively which shocked Blaire. He showers her with love and everything (awwww). Not to forget Rush’s sister, Nan who hates Blaire’s guts tries to break them up again. Will their relationship last from all these?

What the 16 year old thinks…

BEST BOOK OF THE SERIES. The cliffhanger in the first book left me waiting for this book like crazy. And I’m super glad to say ABBI GLINES DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. The book was so awesome I ran out of words to describe it. Rush was simply breath-taking in this book. He could not have been more perfect in this book when he deals with the pregnancy and Nan. Blaire was not annoying when she pushed Rush away (unlike some other YA novels that has annoying hard-to-get female protagonists). Wood’s involvement in this story was more, and it was just right. Everything, every question you’ve been holding on since the first book will be answered in this book. Not the forget the sex scenes in this book was Abbi Glines-tastic, she does not disappoint, Rush does not disappoint too 🙂

Other Rants.

This book was definitely one of my favourites. It was an absolute tear-jerker. I remember how I sobbed at so many parts of the book when I first read it. I reread the book again while writing this review, and it made me cry again. My Rush Crush was at its peak /squeals. The ending was so perfect I could not stop crying. Also it was so perfect that I did not expect a Book Three. I am not sure if it is because of the cliffhanger that made this book so appealing. But it is still a MUST READ. It absolutely surpass my expectations too 🙂

Forever Too Far by Abbi Glines (Too Far #3)

Image

Long Story Short!

Blaire and Rush are once again faced with another series of Nan-problems. Nan is Rush’s step-sister, who is also very protective of Rush. After knowing that her father is Kiro, Nan goes into a series bitchy fits. She directs her anger towards Blaire who is currently pregnant with Rush’s child, as she felt that Rush was taken away from her by Blaire’s relationship with him. Thus her bitchy fits has led a pregnant Blaire and Rush to LA where Nan is currently living and thrashing out matters with Kiro. (Kiro is part of Slacker Demon, which is Rush’s father, Dean’s band) Rush has to make a choice over his pregnant soon-to-be wife, or his helpless unloved sister who also happens to be a giant bitch. This is the final instalment of Rush and Blaire’s story!

What the 16 year old thinks…

Abbi Glines has once again, and for the last time, showered us with her epic awesome sex scenes. With a pregnant and horny Blaire, the sex scenes cannot be any hotter. Rush is waaaaaay more protective in this final book, which makes him hotter. Not to mention, Blaire’s pregnancy hormones are sending her emotions over the edge. Thus, in this final instalment there’s an air of tension hanging over Blaire and Rush. With Nan’s annoying bitchy fits, it puts their relationship to the final test. Not to forget, Abbi Glines has sneakily slipped some bits of Twisted Perfection into this story. Which lets us see the connection between Twisted Perfection series and Too Far series. I also presume there is some bits of Simple Perfection teasers in this book 🙂

Other Rants.

This book did not really surpass my expectations. Out of all three books, I have to say Never Too Far has to be the best one yet. Forever Too Far was too angsty as Blaire overreacts over every single thing. (maybe because Blaire is pregnant), so it annoyed me quite a little. This made me fall for Rush even more as he has been nothing but a total sweetheart throughout this book. I did not shed a single tear in this book and it did not really have any tear-jerking moments AT ALL ):< Hence it was sort of a disappointment. I could not really feel the genuine-ness of their relationship at all 😦 It is almost like another ‘pregnancy’ book. I guess it’s good because it means that Rush and Blaire has finally found happiness. I thought that the tie in of Della from Twisted Perfection into this book was really well done. All the pieces for perfectly 🙂

The Forever of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen

Image

Long Story Short!

Ella and Micha are living miles apart, as they struggle to sustain their relationship. Ella is fighting with her inner demons ever since her mother’s death. Not to mention Micha is not there to be there to save her after going on the road with his band. With both Ella’s father and brother still struggling with their personal issues, Ella is also struggling with her own. Their distance away from one another definitely puts their love to the test. Will Micha be there for her? Or long-distance relationships just don’t work out?

What the 16 year old thinks…

Jessica Sorensen has ended this beautiful story of Ella and Micha beautifully. /sniffs She has long-distance relationships to a whole new level. You will definitely be surprised 🙂 The story is simply beautiful, and I cannot express it in words. Ella and Micha is no ordinary couple, they have been through EVERYTHING together. Without Micha around, you can literally feel the incompleteness of Ella’s life. Their relationship is just so perfect, that if you replace Micha with anyone else, their story wouldn’t be complete. This story is not some cliche perfect love story as both Ella and Micha are broken by their past. You’ll just have to read on to find out how these two broken souls can have the ability to sustain this beautiful relationship of theirs. NOTE: the sexual tension between them is soooooooooooooooooo much. You’ll be surprised.

Other Rants.

Sooooo, when I got my hands on the ebook, I IMMEDIATELY read it, and managed to finish in 3 hours straight. I couldn’t put the book down at all. It was simply breathtaking. Some parts were just so pure I couldn’t help but cry. Not to mention I’m not much of a cryer. I personally felt that this book was way better than the first book (The Secret of Ella and Micha). It was maybe because Ella has started to loosen up a bit more. I was kind of disappointed because the sexual tension was so much, however the steamy scenes were very little. Well I guess Jessica Sorensen likes to keep us on the edge does she?

So so sorry for not updating regularly as I am currently having my national exams! I hope my updates would be more regular! (no promises!) And don’t worry I will be reviewing The Secret of Ella and Micha too! 🙂
